Happy 70th Birthday Social Security!

70 years ago, on August 14, 1935, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law. The program has since provided dignity and financial security for generations of retired Americans, people with disability and surviving widows and children to live above poverty. To commemorate this historic anniversary, Oregonians will join together for a festive “happy birthday” party filled with food, entertainment, stories and to share the birthday cake.

You and your family and friends are cordially invited to participate in this celebration as we toast the past 70 years and for 70 more of Social Security’s guaranteed benefits.

When:
Saturday, August 13, 2005; 11:30 AM
Where:
South Park Block F (Between SW Park Ave. & 9th Ave. on SW Market St.)
Who:
Congressman Earl Blumenauer, as the Master of Ceremony
“Uncle Sam” and “Aunt FICA” will perform a live costume skit
