Protect Oregon's farmland: Call your senator
Submitted by MKirk on August 3, 2005 - 10:49am
Today's Oregonian article , entitled "Property rights compromise bill is expected to die in state Senate", gives me some hope, but word from Salem is that our help is still needed to ensure that our land use protections are not unnecessarily rolled back. Things can get pretty surreal in these final hours and days of the legislative session, so we can't take anything for granted. Please take a moment now to call your Senator and urge a no vote on Senate Bill 1037. The action alert from Oregon Conservation Network, lays out the background on SB 1037 as follows: "SB1037, the purported "fix" for Measure 37, has gone through a lot of changes this legislative session. In early July, the Senate sent the bill to the House. At that point in time the bill was harmless. But now the House has amended the bill and it appears to be headed back to the Senate. The bill is worse than ever before, and we have to stop it. The amendments to SB 1037 include the wide-open transfer of waivers that will result in a land-grab by developers to run roughshod over Oregon's farmlands and scenery with strip malls and subdivisions." You can leave a message for your senator by calling toll free: 1-800-332-2313. After you've called please let us know you did: you can email us at info@ospirg.org. Posted by M KIRK at 10:01 AM |
