Moses for Chair: The anguish of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin
Submitted by Moses Ross on September 2, 2005 - 10:26pm
Moses Ross for Chair *** The Anguish of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin As a candidate for Chair of the Multnomah County Democratic Party, I was given this email forum to talk directly with Democratic Party members about my campaign. I realized however that there is a topic that is much more important at this moment that we must discuss and that is the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post. I have just listened to the audio recording of a radio interview with Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans describing the deplorable and desperate conditions facing the citizens of New Orleans. Mayor Nagin describes with an emotion that borders on desperation the situation that faces our fellow citizens. This admirable and proud Democratic Party Mayor of one of the finest cities in the US challenges us to stop talking and to do something to help. He takes the Bush Administration to task for their slow response to the crisis. You can listen to this riveting radio interview at the link below. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/02/katrina.nagin/index.html I challenge all Oregon Democrats to take the initiative and contribute to disaster relief efforts in some manner. The liberal blogosphere has developed a charitable fundraising campaign spearheaded by Portland local Kari Chisholm. They are committed to raising $1 million dollars to help the victims of the devastation. Please go to www.politicsandtechnology.com to read about their fundraising campaign and to make secure online contributions that will in turn be given to the American Red Cross. Another excellent local group that is working with the disaster relief efforts is Northwest Medical Teams. They are directly helping victims by shipping emergency medical supplies, dispatching mobile health vans and sending staff and volunteers directly to affected areas. Their website is http://www.nwmedicalteams.org/ This situation transcends politics. This is an humanitarian disaster of epic proportions. We must help our fellow Americans. Please contribute what you can. Moving Forward! Moses Ross |
