Peace Train Action Report
Submitted by Ginny Ross - DFO on September 24, 2005 - 9:20pm
![]() DFO Heads to Seattle for the Sept 24 March!
DFO PRESS RELEASE: Sept 23rd, 2005
On Sept. 24 there will be simultaneous massive anti-war demonstrations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, DC, & Seattle. Hundreds of concerned Oregon citizens will participate in the Seattle March, and many of them are traveling to Seattle on the Democracy for Oregon Peace Train leaving the Union Station on Saturday at 8:45 am. A gathering starts at 8am. For further trip details please see: http://www.democracyfororegon.org/2005/2035 A solid majority of Americans, over 60%, disapprove of Bush and his war in Iraq and justifiably oppose the rampant incompetence, deceit and corruption that are the hallmarks of this quagmire. Millions of Americans are also bewildered at the lack of opposition to this debacle shown by our representatives in Congress. Those assembling in four major protests tomorrow will make our voices heard by exercising our right of assembly as citizens to protest a foreign policy built on petulance, fear and lies that has not made us safer from terrrorism. Beyond the cynical manner in which Bush launched his war, millions of Americans are also outraged at the hubris, waste and incompetence with which the invasion has been carried out. We appeal to all Americans to join us in demand accountability from our government for this tragic mistake. Those riding the DFO Peace Train from Portland to Seattle will gather at the Union Station at 8:00 am prior to boarding. We will rally with the peace marchers and also Pete Sorenson, Gubernatorial Candidate, will be riding the train with us. Riders will have the opportunity to meet Pete and hear about his vision for Oregon on the ride north. DFO is concerned that there is a lack of debate or discussion about important issues in Oregon, in part due to Governor Kulongoski's unwillingness to engage or debate his primary opponents. This is not good for democracy. We would like to hear from all the candidates. DFO does not endorse or oppose candidates -- we leave that to our Pac, DFO Action. But we are all for open debate, discussion, and democracy. The DFO Peace Train is an "Amtrak Cascades" service from Eugene to Seattle, leaving from Portland's Union Station 8:45 am and arriving in Seattle at 12:15 pm. The trip is 3 hours & 30 minutes. The train returns from Seattle 5:25 pm and arrives in Portland at 8:52 pm. The March in Seattle is sponsored by the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition (www.internationalanswer.org) Democracy for Oregon * www.DemocracyforOregon.com

My favorite part
Thanks for posting these great pix Ginny! (also check out Barbara's report and photo in another blog entry).
My favorite part of the day (apart from the very fun and relaxing train ride--huge thanks to Joan Coates for organizing the train!) was when the marching band played "America the Beautiful" -- truly it was beautiful to see so many American patriots standing up and speaking out to take their country back!
