From MSNBC:

Miers withdraws Supreme Court nomination
Stunning news in tense D.C.; Bush accepts decision ‘reluctantly’

BREAKING NEWS

Updated: 9:41 a.m. ET Oct. 27, 2005
WASHINGTON - Confronted with criticism from both liberals and conservatives, Harriet Miers on Thursday withdrew her nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In a statement, President Bush said he “reluctantly accepted” her decision to withdraw, after weeks of insisting that he did not want her to step down.

Break out the champagne and M&Ms, everyone. We will not have this unqualified crony on our Supreme Court. Of course, anyone's guess who Bush will now nominate. However, he is in a weakened state and may soon be weaker.

Stay tuned....

Here's Bush's spin:

“It is clear that senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at the White House — disclosures that would undermine a president’s ability to receive candid counsel,” Bush said. “Harriet Miers’ decision demonstrates her deep respect for this essential aspect of the constitutional separation of powers — and confirms my deep respect and admiration for her.”

Oh, those meanie Senators and their inappropriate prying into Presidential privilege! How dare they be so nosy! Sheesh! Don't they see we're doing God's work here and spreading freedom far and wide and being the very best we can be? What a darn shame that their stubbornness has brought this about. I hope they're happy now!! They'll be sorry!!

Okay, back to reality: Please take a moment and drop a line to the media with your thoughts on this. Don't let the rightie spin attacking the Senators take hold. List of Oregon newspaper contact info here.

Your influence on the media is reaching a telepathic level, obviously. Be assured that I saw your headline first and then noted the O joining your chorus. Typical day of bein' the media for you.
