Just did my first poll of the election season...
Submitted by Ruth Adkins on October 13, 2005 - 8:09pm
It was interesting to see the process at work--much of the latter half of the poll was testing out various messages about Ted Wheeler and about where the county should be going. The pollster couldn't pronounce "Multnomah" but he was generally having troubles reading the script, so it wasn't necessarily out of state. Interestingly, there was also a question about Wal-Mart and whether I supported or opposed Wal-Marts being located in Multnomah County. (That felt great to say--OPPOSE!) While I think Diane Linn has done some dumb things, I strongly supported the decision to issue licenses for gay marriages and I don't have huge problems with how the county is run. Well okay other than the Wapato Jail debacle. Anyway I'm open to finding out more about Ted Wheeler. One thing I now know for sure--he has enough money to commission lengthy polls way early in the season. |

Chair...
I think Wheeler is more likely to find supporters out in eastern Multnomah County, where they feel completely ignored by the county commission.
If he could capture enough votes in Portland, as well as the east of 122nd St. people, he could have a shot at beating Linn.
I'm not too happy with Linn, but then again I'm not too happy with the entire county commission.
I really wish they would re-district so that two seats covered part of eastern Multnomah County. Instead we have one person covering the entire area, which means this chunk of the county gets very little representation on the Commission.
