Support Senator Feingold's Call For Censure

Throughout his presidency, George W. Bush has repeatedly shown disdain, if not utter contempt, for Congress, the Constitution, and the rule of law. On Monday, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) courageously stepped forward to demand accountability by introducing a resolution to censure the President, specifically for authorizing an illegal program to spy on American citizens on American soil, and misleading Congress and the American people about the existence and legality of that program.

I fully support Senator Feingold's resolution. While censure is still a long way from impeachment, it is nonetheless an important step in the right direction.

Please stand behind Senator Feingold's resolution. It is vitally important that this president be held accountable for his illegal activities. If a president can break the law, and his oath to the Constitution, without any consequences whatsoever, then our democracy is truly dying.

The time has come for the Democratic Leadership to cease being an oxymoron, and stand up and lead. No other senator besides Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) has publicly come forth to join Senator Feingold in sponsoring his resolution. Some Democratic senators have even instead publicly denounced Seantor Feingold's resolution. In response, Senator Feingold said yesterday, "I'm amazed at Democrats, cowering with this president's numbers so low. The administration just has to raise the specter of the war, and the Democrats run and hide."

Democrats in every state are called upon this week to stand up to this president, and join Senator Feingold in his call for censure. Nothing safeguards liberty more than the rule of law, and if we allow this president to disregard the rule of law, we then risk our own liberties being disregarded.

America is the land of the free, but, by God, it had better be the home of the brave if you would keep it.
