March 21, 2006

This Saturday March 25, we'll be starting our canvassing for the primary election. Our first canvass will be for Jesse Cornett, who is running for the Senate District 24 seat. Senate District 24 is the area south of I-84, east of I-205, stretching to the Gresham city limits, and south to the county line.

Jesse's a great Grassroots Democrat who was endorsed by the county party. Many of you may know him from his involvement in the Bus Project or his postings over at Blue Oregon. He's facing a tough fight in the primary and can use all our help.

If you're interested in helping us out on Saturday, we'll be meeting at 1322 NE 118th Ave. at 12 Noon. After some short speeches and a training for those new to canvassing, we'll head out to speak to neighbors in his district. The area we'll be canvassing is served by State Representative Jeff Merkley, so we'll have plenty of Democratic voters to speak with on Saturday.

If you can't make it this weekend, we'll be canvassing for Brad Avakian on April 1st. There will also be additional Saturday canvasses between now and the primary.

Can't make it on a Saturday? We also have phone banks to help turn out people to our Saturday canvasses and identify additional volunteers. We'll be doing those Mon-Wed evenings at the DPO Headquarters (232 NE 9th in Portland).

There are also lots of volunteer opportunities in our office-- from making copies, to collating action packets, to data entry.

With your help, we can elect great Grassroots Democrats all over the county.
