Human-Chain Protest set New Year’s Day on the Steel Bridge: End Bush’s War Policies
News-release 12-17-06
Human-Chain protest set New Years Day on the Steel bridge against the Bush’s continuing war policies.
President Bush will be thumbing his nose at millions of voters who sent his administration a message Nov. 7 to get out of Iraq IMMEDIATELY. He’s going to send in 30,000 more troops to die for his oil war. And Democratic Majority leader Harry Reid announced Sunday he’ll support that move as long as it’s temporary. Wasn’t that the same line General Westmoreland used each time he added just a few more troops “temporarily” because victory was always in sight.
Start the New Year right with a message to the Bushies—and Senators Wyden, Smith and Reps. Blumenauer, DeFazio, Hooley, Wu: “No More Money for Bush’s Oil War.”
Come to the Steel bridge and its bridgeheads on New Years Day from NOON to 2 p.m for a peace-related, family-oriented protest demonstration. Be in place on the bridge at 1 o’clock.
It’s a human chain so signs—Iraq exit, impeachment, 3000 KIAs—will have to be worn on jackets or hats. Bring water. Wear warm clothes. Make sure kids “go” before the event because there won’t be any porta-potties.
It’s uncomplicated. No speeches. No chants. Maybe a song or two everyone (of all ages) knows. Event is initiated by the South Side DFA MeetUp group, but it’s for the general public, for activists, and for activist groups in the state and area.
