Novick's "attack" on Merkley
Submitted by Jenni on May 16, 2008 - 11:39am
A lot of blogs are going on and on about Novick's "attack"mailer on Merkley. Thus far, none of the postings I've seen have given the actual context or even the content of the mailer. Since I received one, I thought I'd share. Here's the full mailer, with the exception of the area with my name and address (click images for larger version): The part that is getting the most attention is the item in the bottom left corner of the back of the mailer that covers health care:
You'll notice that the piece that everyone is throwing a fit about refers to two pieces in the Oregonian after the legislature couldn't pass Healthy Kids without sending it to the voters as a constitutional amendment. The items criticized the legislature. The funny thing is, that back when this was going on, there were plenty of blog posts on the topic, and lots of comments in opposition to what happened, critical of Merkley, etc. Here are some from Blue Oregon: House Republicans Play Games with Children's Health Care on the Floor House Republicans support Big Tobacco, fail to support Healthy Kids
Breaking: Healthy Kids fails, when Sal Esquivel flips from Yes to No. Finally! Healthy Kids goes to voters Kulongoski - and the Numbers - Support Healthy Kids Program SJR 4: The second-hand smoke of health care policy Riley Poll: Bad News for Smith, Good News for Measures 49 and 50 Measure 50 Supporters Swing Into Action First Anti-Healthy Kids Advertisement Airs Measure 50 Foes Skirt the Law; Pro Forces Strike Back RJ Reynolds Adjusts Anti-Healthy Kids Ad Measure 50 Opposition: $4.5 Million and Counting More Measure 50 Deception from RJ Reynolds Measure 50 Opponents Lose Lawsuit Kitzhaber: Measure 50 is far from perfect, but I'm voting for it. Lance Armstrong Endorses Healthy Kids Plan/Measure 50 Tobacco Companies Make Measure 50 Campaign Most Expensive Ever Healthy Kids Debate: Great Moments in RJ Reynolds Marketing Blumenauer on SCHIP and Measure 50 An Economic Analysis of Measure 50 Oregonian Endorses Measures 49, 50 Oregonian's Video Editorial for Measure 50 Don't buy the tobacco industry's spin. Tobacco Companies Criticized for Anti-50 Deception The funny thing is that when you read through some of the comments, you'll find people who think it is wrong for Novick to use the above information on his mailer, but were making similar complaints in 2007. I just figured that if we were going to discuss this flyer, we should have the actual text and images of it in front of us instead of relying on some to frame it for us. |
