Rallies & Marches"Stop Gordon Smith" Protests- Medford and EugeneSubmitted by sysadmin on April 16, 2008 - 4:42pm.04/21/2008 - 12:00pm 04/21/2008 - 1:00pm Etc/GMT-7 This Monday, let's Stop Gordon Smith! Gordon Smith's special interest contributors have bought his opposition to the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act. This Monday, April 21, we need to remind Smith that he's in Washington D.C. to represent Oregonians, not the corporations who fund his campaigns. The Climate Security Act has bi-partisan support in the U.S. Senate. Oregon's other U.S. Senator, Democrat Ron Wyden, is a co-sponsor. Yet Smith won't stand up to his corporate backers and support this bill. So, stand up for Oregon and our environment on April 21 in Eugene and Medford. Remind Gordon Smith that he works for us, not the special interests. And if you can't make it to Eugene or Medford, let your friends in those cities know about these events.

This rally is going to be occurring nationally (and even internationally) at the same time - Saturday, April 19th at Noon, Pacific Time. We will be meeting at the Capital steps in Salem. This event is a show of support across our nation for Barack Obama. We are going to be saying IN UNISON - "this is our president everyone...listen to us!" (hey I like how that sounds!). Please come out, we are planning events at this time, but one thing is for sure, when we all say "one nation, under God, indivisible...." at the same time across our country, EVERYONE will be listening. Event Details:
Activists in Salem are organizing a candlelight protest (see details below) to coincide with the nationwide World Can't Wait protest, to be held on the night of the State of the Union Speech, Tues., Jan. 31st (see www.worldcantwait.net). We hope that people in and around Salem will join in and help to make our voices heard against the criminals currently occupying the White House. ------------------------------------ Candlelight Protest “For 5 years your anger has mounted. You’ve been lied to. You’ve been spied on. You’ve watched as the death count rose in Iraq, as torture became policy and as thousands of Black people were abandoned on rooftops. Now you ‘re expected to accept a “unitary executive” and an end to abortion. World Can’t Wait is calling people to be in the streets on January 31st and drown out the lies and drive out the Bush regime”. continue reading this blog posting » |
